In this time of go-go growth, Gil Alvarez, left, of Sarasota Select Properties and Mark Miller, right, of Westwater Construction are noted for what they're not building. The partners have eschewed towering residential projects for ones appropriately scaled for their neighborhoods: Burns Court Villas, nearing completion in historic Burns Court, and Legends at Forest Lakes, a sensitive redo of the old gold course that adds seven low-rise condominium builds. Miller, 35, grew up in Forest Lakes. "Developers mold the town," says Alvarez, 46. "We have a responsibility to do the right thing." Up next, The Enclave at Bay Isles, a 12-unit complex on 3.4 acres behind the Avenue of the Flowers Publix on Longboat Key.
