Sarasota Golf Community Gets Makeover
Formerly known as the "in-town golf club," Forest
Lakes Golf Club in Sarasota will soon be opened as a semi-private
golf course, complete with a community center and gated condominium
development called The Legends at Forest Lakes.
Situated on 100 acres on Beneva Road between Webber Road and
Bahia Vista Street, seven multi-story buildings will feature
189 condominiums in three floor plans, ranging in size from
1,606 to 2,014 square feet and starting in the $400,000s.
The development offers indoor parking.
Plans also include erecting a 20,000-square-foot clubhouse
with a full-service restaurant and bar that seats 150 people
and a banquet space for private functions of up to 200 people,
said Jimmy Stewart, director of business development for the
builder, Sarasota-based Westwater Construction, Inc.
Golf club memberships will be included in the purchase price
of the condos.
"The golf course will be renovated," said Stewart.
"We are redesigning two holes to accommodate where the
condos are going. (The condos) will... have views of the number
10 fairway, and we are renovating all the grass, tees, greens."
The 18-hole, par-71 golf course, the condominiums and the community
center will be built to eco-sensitive standards. The condos
will feature high-efficiency HVAC systems, insulated concrete
ceilings and landscaping with indigenous species.
"One of the other neat things we're going to do is provide
the condos a type of room service from the clubhouse,"
said Stewart. "We're calling it in-home dining.
You can do a meal or two but you can also do some catering in
your residence."
There is a pool strictly for residents' use, apart from the
community center, and a home owners' association to handle maintenance.
Indoor amenities include granite countertops and Viking appliance
packages.
Construction is slated to begin in spring 2006 with move-in
scheduled for spring 2007.
